How to duplicate items in Animal Crossing: New Horizons using 2×1 Items

Exploit this neat glitch for unlimited items.
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

An item duplication glitch has been uncovered in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This glitch allows you to make an unlimited number of an item, but there’s a catch. You can only use certain items, and your game has to be on the correct software version.

This exploit only works if your game is on version 1.2.0a. It’s very likely Nintendo will remove this glitch in an upcoming software update, so if you’re into item duplication, you’ll want to try sooner than later. Use at your own risk.

The item you’re duplicating has to be 2 blocks wide by 1 block long. It has to be an item you can put on a table. Wall-mounted items and floor-only items won’t work. To pull off this glitch, you’ll need 2 tables: a 2×2 square table, and a 2×1 long table.

In our example below, the Laboratory Set is the duplicated item. If you’re having trouble picturing a 2×1 item, think of any of the tabletop sets that are so common in AC:NH. The Painting Set or Fortune-Telling Set are good examples of the size item you’ll need.

Here’s the step-by-step process on how to duplicate your items:

  1. To set up the glitch, place a 2×2 square table in your room. Place a 1×2 table next to it.

  1. Put the item you want to duplicate on top of the 2×1 table. Then, press Down on the D-pad to enter Edit Mode, and grab the long table with the item on top. Move the long table so it overlaps with the square table and put it down. It’ll automatically position itself sideways when you put it down.

You won’t see anything out of the ordinary yet. You’ll need to leave the room and re-enter, and then you’ll see multiples of your duplicated item.

Here’s a short video that walks through the process and shows off what items work and which ones don’t.
