Fossil Pokemon in Sword and Shield are unusual because you can mix and match fossils to create different Pokemon. Four different fossils can be used in various combinations to create Fossil Pokemon.

Where To Find Fossils In Pokemon Sword and Shield

You can find the first set of fossils on Route 6, as you head for Stow-on-Side. You will pass some Diglett Sculptures, and that will let you know that you are getting close. You will have to climb up some ladders, and you will come to a campsite. Next to the campsite will be a woman with a strange machine. You will see a rock with something shining on it, and this is where you get your first fossil.

When you have that, you can make your way to Stow-on-Side and talk to an NPC in the Pokemon Center. He will give you another fossil. Where it gets interesting is that Sword and Shield only have two fossils each. If you want to get all four, you will need to give the fossils to a Pokemon and then trade them to a player who is willing to trade you the other fossils. The Drake and Fish fossils are exclusive to Shield, while the Bird and Dino fossils are exclusive to Sword.

A reader has reported that they received a Shield exclusive Fossil from the Digging Duo while they were playing Sword, so it would seem that those NPCs can not just find Fossils, but can even find Fossils that are exclusive to the other version of the game. At the moment we have been unable to confirm this in our own games, but some heavy-duty Watts farming will be done to get to the bottom of this mystery.

To combine the fossils, and make your odd new Pokemon, you will need to return to the woman with the strange machine at the campsite. She will combine them for you to make your Pokemon.

  • Fossilized Bird and Fossilized Dino = Arctozolt
  • Fossilized Drake and Fossilized Fish = Dracovish
  • Fossilized Bird and Fossilized Fish = Arctovish
