How to stream to Twitch on Xbox Series X

Show off your gameplay from Xbox Series X to your Twitch account.
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Twitch is easily the biggest streaming platform on the market. The number of streamers on there far and away outdoes the streaming numbers you see on even YouTube. It might feel overwhelming to attempt streaming with a vast array of competitors out there, especially when you do not have the equipment to do it from a normal means. However, if you own an Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S, you are completely capable of streaming your gameplay directly from your console. Here is how it is done.

Settings

Before we get to streaming, let’s make sure you have the proper settings so you can show off your sick plays on the internet. Bring up the guide by pressing the Xbox button on your controller. Make sure you are in the Profile & system tab and go to settings. In General, click on Online safety & family, then Privacy & online safety. Enter Xbox Live privacy, and you will see the default settings for a child, teen, adult, or custom. Choose the settings you want and go to View details & customize. Enter Game content and scroll to the right until you see Broadcast gameplay. Set this to allow, and you can finally start streaming directly from your Xbox.

Start streaming

To start streaming, you will need to download the Twitch app from the Microsoft Store onto your console. Open the store and search for Twitch. It is a free download and will not take long to install. Now that the app is installed open it up and sign in or create a Twitch account using your phone or PC. You will need to input a unique code on your screen into twitch.tv/activate to proceed.

Now that you have your account and are signed in go to Broadcast at the top of the screen. On the left, decide what the name of your stream will be. Below that, whatever game you are playing will automatically be entered when you play it. On the right side will be various settings you can set to your specifications. This includes how loud your voice and game audio will come through in the stream and whether you want to broadcast the voices of people in your Xbox Live Party (they will need to allow this in the party when streaming).

Once all of your settings are where you want them, enter a game, and select Start Streaming. You can pull up your stream on your phone or PC to make sure everything looks and sounds good. While you play, you will see a Chat Bar on your screen, which will show any comments your viewers leave. Once you are done, go back to your broadcast dashboard and end the stream.
