In Astral Chain, you play a police officer who gets paired up with an extra-dimensional entity known as a Legion to learn about attacks from an invading force known as the Chimera. The game plays out in a fairly standard way, and as you play through each File or Chapter, you will be loading into levels that specifically house the events of that mission.

In between Files, you will be exploring the Police Station that acts as a hub world, and your base of operations.

Astral Chain An Open-World Game?

While Astral Chain is not an open-world game, there is still a vast amount of exploration to be done. You should fully explore each level you play through, searching for secrets, Salvage, Red Matter, and a whole host of other useful things.

Many items are hidden away in crates that you can find dotted around levels. These items are handy. It is also essential to explore the entirety of levels to make sure you are leveling up as fast as possible. The more Red Matter you acquire, the better. You don’t want to miss out on any potential fights because you can earn Gene Code from them to level up your Legion.

In short, while Astral Chain is not an open-world game, you do need to explore. The levels are packed with secrets and collectibles, rewarding any curious player going off the path.
