Rare Parts in Star Wars: Galactic Racer are a step up from the more “generic” Common Parts in the game. In the roguelike, they start to show you just how “versatile” your builds can get without overwhelming you into the craziness of builds. Treat them as a taste of things to come, and there are quite a lot of them to take advantage of.
Before you make a deep dive into securing Epic and Legendary Parts for your endgame builds, Rares are the middle step you take when you want to test your limits. And there are some Rares that just help you stand out from the rest.
Depleted Shielding

Given how the Afterburner isn’t as fast as the Ramjet in Galactic Racer, you wouldn’t waste a single drop before switching to the more volatile Ramjet. In the gap between that switch, hopefully the Afterburner has refilled fast enough. Especially if you’re in a rough part of the track where there’s no guarantee you can control the Ramjet to maintain your speed and position.
With Depleted Shielding, you get that slight guarantee. After ending a full Afterburner cycle, you get 5-second Shielding. This might be short, but in instances where you want to use a Ramjet to zoom past opponents, the guaranteed collision protection is a godsend.
Thermoactive Fuel

Compared to the Ramjet, the Afterburner is almost everyone’s go-to boost in Galactic Racer. It’s just more “predictable” and manageable, plus you don’t lose as much control over your vehicle in the process. It’s probably for this reason that you should look for Parts that proc on Afterburner use, such as Thermoactive Fuel that grants Cooled.
With this, your Ramjet refills faster and cools it down more efficiently. The Afterburner already does this by nature, but this extra boost means you’ll secure your Ramjet much sooner. And in tracks where there are lava pits or other sources of Burning, the Cooled effect is a much-needed counter.
Refueling Abilities

Your Abilities are your aces in the hole in Galactic Racer, especially if they’re able to help you gain control over some aspect of the race. Maybe you can disrupt your opponents, help you control your vehicle better, or outright surrender control to the AI. With a Tech Expert build, you’d count on recharging your Energy and your Ability cooldowns ASAP.
And with Refueling Abilities, using an Ability grants you a bonus Afterburner refill. If your Afterburner boosts you further, you can get close to rivals you want to target with your Abilities.
Inertial Shield

The Ramjet is such a powerful tool in Galactic Racer gameplay to the point where the game actually gave it a lot of setbacks. Not only is your ride harder to control on Ramjet, but overheating it can cause it to explode. So while the Ramjet can give you a much-needed super speed boost, you’d think twice with all the risk it would give your vehicle.
And with Inertial Shield, you get a slight allowance in that regard. When your speed reaches 450 and above, you get Shielded for 10 seconds. That might seem situational at first, but that’s anti-collision during times when it’s the hardest to control the vehicle.
Shielding Lead

If you’ve played any Mario Kart you know 1st Place has its risks since you become everyone else’s target. In Galactic Racer where the simplest collision can cost you the placement (and sometimes the entire race), there’s a ton of reasons to not want to stay ahead. But with Shielding Lead, you actually get a nifty incentive.
At first place, Shielding Lead grants you 30-second Shielding. This is one of the longest Shielding buffs the game has to offer, and it lasts for as long as you don’t collide with anyone or anything. And with how being first practically encourages everyone to dish out their Abilities on you, this is an easy bonus to take advantage of. Even if someone passes you, as soon as you lose that Shield, you can just reclaim it by taking your throne back.
Recovery Shield

Crashing is an inevitable occurrence in Galactic Racer, but just because you’re down doesn’t mean you’re out. It can get difficult to recover from a setback like this, but it’s doable with the right momentum. There’s a lot of situations where other enemies can also Crash, so you can regain the lead fairly easily.
But where Recovery Shield shines is the way it can ensure you get additional protection when you do reset. With this Part, you get 30 seconds of Shielding to protect you against any hard collisions. Granted it does trigger on a Crash, but this extra “cushion” can be a lifesaver especially if trying to regain momentum means being more of a risk-taker.
Improved Drafting

You might not notice it, but you can actually Slipstream in Galactic Racer gameplay. The way it works is that you drive close and behind another racer and use their momentum to build your own speed. In physics, you’re taking advantage of the fact that the space behind a fast-moving object doesn’t have a lot of air resistance, so you’re free to move much faster.
In Galactic Racer, if you move away from behind a vehicle you just slipstreamed, you get slingshotted and get a speed boost. And with Improved Drafting, whatever speed boost you get from slipstreaming is just doubled. It’s a simple perk but it can be such a huge advantage when you consider that slipstreams are so easy to pull off, especially if you’re gearing for a comeback finish.
