Nintendo came out swinging during this year’s E3 conference, and they landed on their feet with a solid line up of titles releasing throughout the rest of the year. One of the more significant titles they spoke about during their conference was Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Unfortunately, unlike many of the titles, they’re releasing, this one is getting delayed until next year. Fans are going to have to wait a little bit longer. However, what they did share about the game at the conference highlighted some of the helpful and exciting new features coming to the game. We have a break down of all the unique quality of life mechanics Nintendo is adding to New Horizons.

Quality of Life Features Coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Character Customization

One of the more significant features coming to game players are going to notice when they first jump into it is how much control they’re going to get with the character customization. Nintendo went all out to give players as much flexibility as they could to have their village in the game reflect those who are playing the game. Previously, these options were limited, and even details like skin tone were never a reality.

Things have changed since Nintendo released their mobile game Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, which came out in October 2017. Players had a variety of options to choose from when they were creating their villager, and many of those choices are going to be available in New Horizons. Some new things also include gender-neutral hairstyles, facial features, hair color, eye color, and many other choices, including the villager’s skin-tone.

Another feature included with character customization is the fact a player can make these changes at any time during their gameplay. If they want to make a quick character change, they can do so without having to go out of their way to make it happen. It’s a seamless process, giving players more freedom.

Building a Village

Most of the time when players jumped into their Animal Crossing game, the game’s village was already set up, and the player had the chance to roam around, mainly customizing their homestead. Now, players have the option to customize the living conditions of the other residents.

When players start their journey in New Horizons, their villager has accepted the offer of the Nook Inc. Deserted Island Getaway Package. The game begins on a deserted island, meaning you’re going to have to start from the ground up to build your new playground. A handful of other eager villagers have also opted to go with the unique getaway package, and as such, they too are going to construct their ideal homestead at the beginning of the game. Whenever a villager decides on a location to place their home, they’re going to approach the player to double-check that you’re okay with the decision. If you don’t like where they’re going, you can tell them to go somewhere else and try again.

You’ll have a lot more freedom to pick and choose where they set up, so the entire village feels like your community rather than you being a member of it. Nintendo didn’t share how much say players are going to have in what the other villagers pick for their houses, but we expect to hear more details about this topic the closer we get to the game’s release next year.

Couch Co-op and eight-player Multiplayer

Animal Crossing is always better with a friend. This time around in New Horizons, players can pass the joy-con around to include up to four players to jump in the game at the same time, enabling your friends to play as one of the villagers in your game. They’ll be able to explore, complete activities, and assist in you in your daily routine.

Additionally, for players who are gaming from afar, there’s going to be an eight-player online multiplayer feature. Friends can visit each other’s villages, and meet the other inhabitants of the location. While Nintendo did reveal this, they did not go too much into detail about the other things players are going to have the chance to do together. The game might include specific competitions and in-game events tied to the multiplayer aspect. We’ll likely hear more about this closer to the game’s release.

While Animal Cross: New Horizons did get a delay, players are still excited about the number of new features and options coming to the title. You won’t have to wait too long for the game. Nintendo did say it’s going to release on March 20, 2020, for the Nintendo Switch. You can pre-order the game right now, so you can jump in on day one.
