The Outer Worlds allows you to invest heavily in stealth and sneaky tactics. Some areas are just too hard to sneak in, however. These off-limits areas are only accessible to certain groups, so if you want to get in, you will need a disguise.

The Outer Worlds Hologram Disguise – How To Use The Holographic Shroud

The Holographic Shroud will automatically unlock for you after you leave Edgewater. As soon as you get your ship up and running, check the Captain’s Quarters to find the device.

The hologram disguise will automatically turn on whenever you enter an area that is restricted, but there is a catch, as you need to find a suitable disguise for it to project. These can be found hidden through the game world, so if you find a restricted area, be sure to search high and low to try and find a disguise that will work. The disguises look like keycards or datapads.

When the disguise is active, it will slowly drain, as the device can only sustain the disguise for a limited time. When the purple bar at the bottom of the screen runs out, it will deactivate. This means any character nearby will be able to see the real you.

The good news is that you can pass a dialogue test, giving the holographic disguise a chance to recharge, and having high enough dialogue skill scores should keep you safe from discovery.

It is a good idea to save your game before entering a restricted area, as any mistake can make a whole lot of people in the area mad at you, and you don’t want to negatively impact your reputation with people if you don’t have to.
