Echo fighters are a new additions to the Super Smash Bros. series in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

These new character types have distinct appearances and animations from everyone else in the roster but have move sets based on other fighters. Their addition will detract from critics of “cloned” characters in an already crowded game. One example of an Echo is Chrom, who is a combination of Roy and Ike from the Fire Emblem series.

There are currently six Echoes, including Dark Samus, Daisy, Lucina, Chrom, Dark Pit, and Richter. Masahiro Sakurai teased that there are more on the way.

But who could they be? And what possible character could be joining a roster already consisting of over 70 characters? We’ve brainstormed a few likely possibilities.

Shadow (Sonic)

Shadow the Hedgehog was used as an assist trophy in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U—but now its time for him to become his own character. He is one of the most popular characters from the Sonic games and would fit well among the other “Dark” mirrors.

Ms. Pac Man (Pac Man)

Honestly, we are surprised that Ms. Pac Man wasn’t an alternative skin in the Wii U/3DS version, consider her status as an icon and the ease of adding a bow.

Dixie Kong (Donkey Kong Country)

Dixie Kong is one of many playable characters from the Donkey Kong Country series and could become an echo fighter to Diddy Kong. Her spinning ponytail, used to float since Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest, an animation tweak could easily mirror Diddy’s barrel jet-pack.

Octolings (Splatoon)

The Octolings are the counterparts to the Inklings in the Splatoon series and were recently made playable in Splatoon 2. The Octolings have a unique look that could have been used as an alternative skin to the Inkling. It seems likely that these cephalopods could join the roster as their own character.

Isabelle (Animal Crossing)

Isabelle was an assist trophy in the Wii U version of the game and has not been seen since. She’d toss out fruit to all characters to help them heal up. Her disappearance from the current build of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has led some players to believe that she could be an echo fighter for the Villager, using his move-sets to comic effect. It’d be a big promotion from secretary.
