Detroit: Become Human

Sony has clarified that Detroit Become Human runs at 4K Checkerboard rendering resolution, and not at the native 4K resolution on PlayStation 4 Pro.

A few hours ago, IGN posted a quick video and feature about Detroit: Become Human as part of its IGN First coverage where it discusses the tech behind the upcoming and much anticipated PS4 exclusive.

In that feature, and in the description of the attached video on YouTube, the website mentioned that the game would be running at the native resolution of 4K on PlayStation 4 Pro, something that the developer had already apparently ruled out at GDC 2018.

Detroit Become Human PS4 Pro Won't Run At 4K

While the news was great for PS4 Pro users, it was quickly debunked as a Sony PR contacted IGN to confirm that the game will be instead of running at the 4K resolution only thanks to the checkerboard rendering technique. Which definitely it’s not native.

It is worth noting that very little changes about the game itself with this clarification. Horizon: Zero Dawn and God of War, among the others, use checkerboard rendering and look amazing, making it often hard for tech experts to tell whether the 4K resolution is native or upscaled thanks to the technique.

Quantic Dream’s Detroit: Become Human, the latest game from the makers of Fahrenheit, Heavy Rain and Beyond, releases on May 25.
