Mortal Kombat 11: Why AI Fighters Are A Godsend

Mortal Kombat 11 allows AI fighters to play for you. AI fighters can do all the grinding for you!

One of the best features in Mortal Kombat 11 is that it allows players to have an AI play matches for them.

The main function of any game should be about playing it. So it may seem odd to have one of the best functions in a game is that it gives players the options to avoid playing altogether.

But there is so much game to play in Mortal Kombat 11, arguably too much game for anyone responsible adult to have the time to play. Unlike movies or television, which anyone can have on the background as they do more meaningful work, video games usually require a person to have their complete attention.

Mortal Kombat 11 Towers of Time

You can’t only play a video game and do your taxes at the same time; your attention needs to be focus on one of those two things.

There is an unbelievable amount of content to collect in Mortal Kombat 11. Every character has at least 60 different skins (most of them are recolor variations), along with dozens of different gear to equip. Every character has their own set of intro and outro animations that also needs to be collected. This isn’t even including the online stuff, like customizing you Kombat Kard with all your stats.

Not only that but the game has four different currencies; there are Koins, Souls, Hearts, and Time Krystals. To get any collectibles and currencies in the game, you need to be playing it constantly.

Either through tower mode or online mode, you need to be constantly playing to get the collectibles you desire. With so many collectibles, it would take any normal person an insane amount of time to get the ones they want, let alone all of them.

That was one of the biggest criticisms towards the game at launch, there was just too much to collect, and it takes too long to collect it. It made the game feel very grind-y.

Fortunately, the developers at NetherRealm studios appeared to have the foresight to recognize that there was simply too much to do in Mortal Kombat 11. When you’re customizing your characters in the Kustomize mode, there’s an option to change the stats of a character’s AI. You can customize an AI’s grappling, rushdown, combos, reversal, zoning, and runaway.

Mortal Kombat 11 AI Options

You can have these AIs fight matches for you. In most modes, including the two Towers modes, you can have AIs fight in your stead. Towers are a succession of matches that you play to earn a big prize at the end.

You don’t have to do anything; the computer will fight all your matches for you. You even get all the rewards as if you’re playing. The only real downside is that the AIs generally don’t earn nearly enough points in the towers in the Tower modes as a normal player controlled character.

To select the AI you have first to select a fighter, and when you have to decide which variation you want to play as there’s an option to have AI fighters on or off. Press the square button on the PS4 controller, or X on the Xbox One controller, to switch AI fighters on.

From there the computer control character will fight all your matches while you do something else. It such a handy option to have especially going through the many different towers in the two Towers mode.

The Towers of Time mode has multiple platforms with multiple towers on them; completing a whole set of towers on a platform rewards players with even better rewards. These platforms are also constantly changing, meaning new rewards are being offered to players constantly.

As mention before, there is simply too much to play in Mortal Kombat 11. There are too many towers with too many rewards for any one player to feasible have enough time to go through all them. But it is through these rewards that players are gifted the long desired cosmetics or bonuses that may have desperately tried to get.

Mortal Kombat 11 Towers

With AI fighters, the game will do all the grinding for you. As computers do all the work for you, you are free to do other things.

Working at home, yet really want to beat some of those pesky towers before the days over? Just select an AI Fighter, and let them finish those towers for you. Need to study for an exam, yet can’t resist playing MK 11 to get all those cool rewards? Turn on AI fighter, and have them collect all those rewards for you while you study for that all-important exam.

Heck, I have AI fighters playing on my MK 11 for me as I write this piece.

It’s thanks to AI fighters that I was able to save up over a million Koins and successfully complete several tower platforms in the Towers of Time mode.

Mortal Kombat 11 Koins Rewards

It may make playing the game seem less consequential, as what would be the point of actually playing the game if you can just let the computer do everything for you? Not only that, you still have to select towers and matches for the AI fighter manually. Worse yet, after beating a match in the tower, you still need to press Kontinue for the next match to start. That means you still need to be somewhat aware of what’s going on in the game.

However, AI fighters have done nothing but beneficial things for me since I began using the function. I have made great progress in the game without sacrifice time that I needed to spend on work or chores. I was able to get more skins and other cosmetics because the AI did all the grinding for me.

It is also not as if I have completely stopped playing the game personally. The AI is only capable of so much, and there are certain towers that only a player can unlock (unless you customize your AI in a specific way). I still play when I have the time, or in matches, I really want to play in.

Since I don’t care about the character Kano, I used an AI to play as him to beat a classic tower so that I can get his ending. But because Scorpion is one of my favorite video game characters ever, I, of course, make sure to play as him as much as possible.

The AI fighters take cares of the stuff that I don’t care about, given me the time to focus on the aspects of the game that I truly want to focus on. AI fighters have truly made my enjoyment for Mortal Kombat 11 even greater.
