Pokémon Without Evolutions Who Need One in Sword and Shield

Pokemon Sword and Shield

Farfetch’d finally gets new evolution. Will other Pokemon follow him in Sword and Shield?

Farfetch’d has an evolution, and we all couldn’t be happier. Farfetch’d was always one of the odd ducks out in the original 151 Pokémon. He didn’t have good stats, nor did he evolve into something better. He was there.

Fans have been clamoring for a Farfetch’d evolution for decades now, only to be continuously denied by the Pokémon Company and Game Freak. But now the Pokémon Company has delivered what fans have been wanting, giving Farfetch’d the evolution he rightfully deserves. Sirfetch’d, Farfetch’d’s new evolution, is a fetching new Pokémon, fans have already fallen in love with it.

Fans have something new with Farfetch’d, but there are other Pokémon who do not have an evolved form. Pokémon Sword and Shield can finally give it to them.

Which Pokémon without evolutions deserve to get one in Sword and Shield?

Pokémon without evolutions that need one in Sword and Shield

Shuckle

There’s a lot awful Pokémon in Gen. II that never got evolutions. Qwilfish and Delibird are the first that come to mind when thinking of terrible Gen. II Pokémon with no evolutions, yet both pale in comparison to the worthlessness of Shuckle. Shuckle is an enigma; it’s a bug and rock-type, though doesn’t look like a bug. It has awful stats and doesn’t even evolve. Of all the Pokémon from Gen. II, he’s probably the second Pokémon that deserves an evolution.

Kecleon

I remember Kecleon showing up in the Pokémon anime before their games ever came out. Those were good times. However, Kecleon is not a good Pokémon to use in battle. It’s one gimmick, camouflage isn’t useful in fights. The least it could do is evolve into something with better stats. However, it never does that. Sword and Shield should fix that and give it an evolution.

Maractus

In the fifth generation of Pokémon games, Black and White, there was a Pokémon called Stunfisk. It was a stupid little fish electric/ground-type Pokémon. It doesn’t have any evolution, but I chose not to include Stunfisk on this list because it is such a terrible Pokémon in both stats and aesthetic.

Instead, I’m putting Maractus, the cactus Pokémon from Black and White, on this list. At least Maractus has a redeemable design, and I would like to see an evolution of it. Stunfisk can go off and disappear for all I care.

Pyukumuku

I trend I’ve noticed from Pokémon games is that solo-Pokémon, meaning Pokémon with no evolutions, usually have a weird gimmick. It is almost as if the designers need to have a trick for them to justify why they don’t have evolutions. Sometimes they are cool gimmicks, though in the case for Pyukumuku it is just disgusting. Pyukumuku is a weird rock/coral looking Pokémon that attacks with its mouth. The insides of Pyukumuku can hurt opponents, which is odd. It’s just a strange Pokémon that isn’t good in battles, so I don’t understand why it doesn’t evolve into anything.

Komala

How did this thing not have an evolution? When they first announced Komala for Sun and Moon, we all thought it was the base form for a more powerful and cooler evolution. But it turns out it wasn’t. Komala does not evolve at all, and it sucks. It is a terrible Pokémon that only sleeps, and attacks with a log. I don’t understand what the thought progress with this Pokémon was. It doesn’t make sense for the developers not to give it an evolution. It’s not a good Pokémon as is, so what’s the deal. I hope that Sword and Shield will finally give Komala an evolution that it obviously should have had in the beginning.

Luvdisc And Alomomola

Luvdisc is a heart-shaped, fish Pokémon, and it is abysmal. Alomomola is a heart-shaped, fish Pokémon, and it is appalling. You see the pattern here? Luvdisc’s and Alomomola’s only role in Pokémon is to add in more fish Pokémon that trainers can lure out with their fishing rods. They are just padding, though I do appreciate that you can catch Luvdisc with Heart Scales, and those are always useful.

I’m confused about why Alomomola wasn’t an evolution for Luvdisc. I say that the Pokémon Company should create a third heart Pokémon that serves as an evolution bridge between Luvdisc and Alomomola. Luvdisc can evolve into this new heart Pokémon, and this new Pokémon can then, in turn, evolve into Alomomola.

Volbeat And Illumise

I’m going to be honest. I forget these two Pokémon exist sometimes. Volbeat and Illumise are pure bug-type Pokémon that look similar but are utterly separate Pokémon. Neither of them is particularly useful, and they don’t even look cool. They are just dull, which is the worst thing you can say about a Pokémon. A fresh, new evolution can fix that, however. Give them new evolved forms that have extra-typing and betters stats, and they can redeem Volbeat and Illumise.

Mimikyu

This Pokémon is probably the most controversial entry on this feature. Don’t get the wrong idea. I love Mimikyu. It’s a sad, lonely Pokémon who is pretending to be like Pikachu. For a Pokémon that does not evolve, it has pretty decent stats. There’s a lot of potential for an evolved form of Mimikyu. They could either have it evolve into something more frightening, or have it become something cuter. While the appeal of Mimikyu is the fact that it is kind of cute, a bigger and worse version has the potential to be a very cool Pokémon in its own right.

All Those Gosh Darn Pikachu Clones

After Pikachu became a global icon, Game Freak attempted multiple times to recapture the magic by creating at least one new electric rodent based Pokémon in each generation. I hate all these Pikachu clones. Plusle, Minun, Pachirisu, Emolga, Dedenne, and Togedemaru are electric-rodent Pokémon that are inspired by Pikachu, and they are all horrible. I especially hate Dedenne, that dumb little mouse Pokémon from Gen. VI.

What makes these Pikachu clones worse is the fact that none of them evolve. In general, I hate when Pokémon don’t change, unless they already have an impressive design, like Tauros or Pinsir. Pikachu is only really worth having because Pikachu can evolve into Raichu, and Raichu has good stats. It feels like Game Freak doesn’t want to make their Pikachu clones not cute anymore by evolving them into better Pokémon, but they should. No one likes most of these Pikachu clones, and they should have them finally evolve into something cool in Sword and Shield.

Dunsparce

Dunsparce is such an odd Pokémon. It looks like the base form of an evolution line, but it doesn’t evolve into anything. It has feeble stats, and its typing, normal, doesn’t match with its appearance or description. It is a serpent that likes to dig underground, and it even has wings, yet is only a normal type. Dunsparce’s overall aesthetic isn’t as horrid as some of the other Pokémon on this list. However, Dunsparce’s is, in many ways, the Farfetch’d of the second generation of Pokémon games.

Fans have grown to care for this very unassuming Pokémon, and they desire greater things from it. Game Freak eventually listen to Farfetch’d fans, and gave it an evolution. Will they listen to the pleas of Dunsparce’s fans and give the poor little serpent Pokémon an evolution?
