Best Xbox One Exclusives | Top 10 Xbox One Exclusive Games

One of the sturdier hardware consoles to date, the Xbox One hasn’t been known for its vast selection of exclusive game titles, but more for the technological aspects of the entertainment system and the power that it possesses. This would include the Xbox One S and the Xbox One X which have the capability at playing true 4K resolution, which pushes the graphical limits of some of the already more beautiful games that are out now.

And although it doesn’t have the same archive of exclusives compared to PlayStation and Nintendo, the ones that Xbox One does have are great entries into the gaming world all their own and are worth mentioning. Those picked are based on the graphical accomplishment, fantastic gameplay, great story elements, and the entertainment factor of multiplayer modes.

Top 10 Xbox One Exclusive Games

10. Quantum Break (2016)

Developed by the same company that made Alan Wake, this time-traveling sci-fi action title takes what was so great about Wake and pushes it to the next level. First, the combat system and mechanics are unique, making for gameplay that never gets old or dull. Second, the story is a solid thriller with a great cast of characters, plot twists, and beats that are groundbreaking and memorable. Finally, the photorealism of the character’s faces are uncanny and display the power of the Xbox One. Players will even recognize familiar faces of actors that portray the main characters, which can sometimes make them feel like they’re watching a movie.

A remastered port of the original Gears of War, this exclusive must-have gives the first game of the beloved franchise and gives it a face-lift. The graphics are significantly improved for the Xbox One, bringing the classic action title to new audiences and younger generations. The Gears of War franchise is one of the many reasons to own an Xbox, so remastering the original was a great choice on Microsoft’s part, especially since they are continuing the franchise with Gears of War 4 and the yet-to-be-released Gears of War 5. A worthy gaming experience for newcomers and seasoned players.

7. Rare Replay (2015)

Although this isn’t a typical exclusive game per se, Rare Replay is a collection of 30 titles from over 30 years that were released by Rare that spanned various gaming systems up to the Xbox 360. The titles include games like Battletoads, Banjo-Kazooie, Perfect-Dark Zero, and Viva Pinata. 6. Halo 5: Guardians (2015)

Some might wonder why this one made the list due to its divisive nature. Met with mixed reviews, Halo 5: Guardians has a somewhat disappointing campaign, yet delivers on every front with the multiplayer. Part of the Xbox experience is the online elements, which this game uses to the highest degree, giving players hours upon hours of entertainment. It improved upon Halo 4‘s multiplayer, which was met with mass criticism due to its departure from the classic feel of the franchise, so the studio wanted to make a return to what made the series so special. Even though the campaign is seen as disappointing, it’s still worth checking out for those hardcore Halo and sci-fi fans who are just wanting to continue the stories that make up that universe.

5. Gears of War 4 (2016)

With a whole new roster of characters introduced and a new problem at stake, Gears of War 4 sets up the future of the franchise in a way that is exciting and fresh, letting players know that the series won’t be going anywhere soon. Although it takes on a new story with new characters, it still relies heavily on the previous trilogy’s plot points, so newcomers should go back and play the first three, especially since they’re easily accessible. The gameplay remains the same, but the graphics are much improved upon, bringing the franchise to new limits. It’s a beautifully crafted game that sets up a great mystery for further sequels.

4. State of Decay 2 (2018)

The great thing about State of Decay 2 is that it stands out amongst the saturated zombie-game market. Where other games rely heavily on the kill-or-be-killed aspect, this game encourages players to think about the survival aspects, which include finding resources and building defenses against the hordes. It’s also an open-world game, so finding those resources can be tricky, especially if players venture further out from their safe havens. State of Decay 2 also features an optional co-operative mode, which we highly suggest to the alternative of surviving alone.

3. Ori and the Blind Forest (2015)

This is one of the more unique titles for the Xbox One. A 2D platforming-adventure game, Ori and the Blind Forest has various challenges including enemies and puzzles, but the game also features upgrades that help the players through the progression. The artwork, design, and story elements are all fresh and new to Xbox players, so it’s worthwhile for anyone with the console to check it out for a unique experience.

2. Cuphead (2017)

With one of the most innovative art styles in gaming, Cuphead came onto the scene and surprised gamers everywhere. Taking on an early to mid-1900s cartoon style, the game is a 2D side-scrolling platforming adventure that encompasses both a retro look and a modern-day challenge. The difficulty level of Cuphead keeps players on their toes but wields a level of satisfaction when certain stages are completed. This game falls in line as one of the more memorable gaming experiences right there with Castle Crashers.

1. Halo: The Master Chief Collection (2014)

We’re placing this one as number one because it brings together the original trilogy, but also the fourth installment of the franchise, so newcomers who want to try out Halo 5: Guardians have a chance to play the main titles up to that point. The graphical remaster is also a great accomplishment so seasoned players will have the opportunity to play those old games with a facelift and appreciate the stories once more. To this day, the deep story and strong sci-fi elements make for one of the best first-person shooters to date. It’s safe to say that the first game paved the way for first-person shooters as we know them today, so witnessing that history in the remastered version is always an honor to revisit.
