Destiny 2’s Season of Opulence is going to involve a whole lot of Runes. You can put Runes into your Chalice of Opulence and then do runs in the Menagerie to guarantee certain types of loot drops. While you need to earn Imperials in order to upgrade your Chalice, you also need to find Runes to put in it, as different combinations of different Runes will net you all kinds of gear.

How To Get Runes In Destiny 2

Runes come in 4 different types that all have their own color. You can get Purple Runes as soon as you get the Chalice, but you will need to upgrade it to get access to the other Runes.

  • Rune Compatibility 1 – Red Runes
  • Rune Compatibility 2 – Green Runes
  • Rune Compatibility 3 – Blue Runes

To upgrade the Chalice, you will need to earn Imperials. This will take some time; you won’t be able to upgrade the Chalice quickly, so think carefully about what you want to do. These upgrades listed above give you to chance to get the relevant Runes, but they do not guarantee it.

To have a chance of getting Runes, you need to do certain in-game activities. These include Weekly Bounties from Werner 99-40 that you can get on the Imperial Barge on Nessus. You can also do Nightfalls, Strikes, Treasure Hunts, or open chest on the Imperial Barge for 5k Glimmer a piece. You can also earn them from Gambit and Crucible matches, and finally you can earn them from the final chest after the boss fight in the Menagerie.

How To Increase The Number Of Runes You Get

You can purchase a buff from Werner 99-40 that will increase your chances of getting Runes in Strikes, the Crucible, and Gambit. The buff will cost you 1500 Glimmer and 10 Legendary Shards and will last for 4 hours. You can also make certain upgrades to the Chalice that will increase how many Runes you get.

  • Rune Bonus 1 – increased Runes from Werner’s Weekly Bounties
  • Rune Bonus 2 – One of the Runes in your Chalice will be refunded upon completion of the Menagerie.
  • Rune Bonus 3 – additional Runes from the Menagerie chest.

The main thing to worry about is merely playing the game. The Runes will drop, but it is really up to you to decide what way you want to approach upgrading the Chalice. At the moment, the main concern is finding enough Imperials to get the upgrades you wish to rather than Runes. I plan to open up the Rune slots on the Chalice itself, then go one for one on the Compatibility and Bonus upgrades. However you choose to do it, may RNGesus bless you with the loot you desire.
