The Division 2 Dev: You Can Play The Entire Campaign And End-Game Content Solo

Tom Clancy’s The Division Game Director Mathias Karlson has clarified that it will be possible for a player to play The Division 2’s entire campaign and end game content alone, and they also play the same content with either two, three or four players co-op.

At E3 2018, Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment shared the first-look of Tom Clancy’s The Division 2. The game was said to support up to 4 player co-op, however, at that time there was no clarification on whether the sequel will be playable SOLO i.e. will it be possible for the player to play The Division 2’s campaign right from the start to end and then the end-game content ALONE? In a recent interview with our friend at AusGamers, Game Director Mathias Karlson answered this popular question from The Division community and many others.

Tom Clancy's The Division 2 Campaign Playable Solo

Karlson confirmed that Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 can be completed solo from start to finish (much like the first game in the franchise), and it will be also possible for the player to complete the game from start to finish with two, three or four player co-op.

“Absolutely not, it’s really a core principle for us that there is no right or wrong way to play The Division,” Mathias replied when asked if The Division 2 is more centered around having to play with friends. “You can play through the entire story campaign into end-game and [then the] end-game [content], alone. [But] you can also do the same content [in] two, three, or four player co-op. Or eight-player co-op, two full groups in the raid if you opt into the challenge that we’re adding. So it’s very important for us that you get to pick. Personally, I’m a co-op player, I think the added synergies and the fact that you’re playing together with other people makes it a richer experience. But many people at the office are, like, ‘that’s cool, I like it in certain activities. But I want to have the bulk of the experience alone when I’m out exploring’. So there’s no right or wrong.

Sadly, there was no clarification from Mathias Karlson on whether the development team will make an adjustment to the end game missions in The Division 2 so that solo players can tackle it a bit easily, and whether it will be possible to complete the much talked about 8-player raids solo. In the original game (that was released in 2016), end game missions were a bit difficult (almost impossible) to tackle alone due to multiple reasons: it took hours to kill the enemies, and the solo player can be taken down with just a few bullets.

We expect Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft to issue a bit more clarification on this in coming days.
