Spider-Man reviews’ embargo has finally lifted off and we can read and watch with our own eyes what the main international outlets think of the latest PlayStation 4 exclusive from the beloved developer Insomniac Games.

Among those outlets we find Digital Foundry, of course, which has provided an interesting technical analysis of the game’s resolution and frame rate on both the base PlayStation 4 model and PS4 Pro.

What’s nice to see is Insomniac Games has adopted the same Ratchet & Clank technology on PS4 Pro, bringing the amazing temporal injection technique to the lot instead of the checkerboard rendering used in other exclusives.

“The results are mostly excellent – completely avoiding the stippling that can crop up with checkerboard rendering and producing detail that exceeds raw pixel count,” says Digital Foundry.

On top of that, Spider-Man uses a dynamic resolution system that goes as high as 3456×1944 with a minimum 2560×1368 and an average of around 1584p on PlayStation 4 Pro. It looks like the base PS4 comes in with a similar solution, targeting 1080p but going for 900p in a few cut-scenes.

As for the other differences between the two platforms, “in our tests, resolution and minor shading variations are essentially the only difference between systems – but despite the post-heavy aesthetic, Pro clearly delivers a cleaner image.”

Frame rate is indeed almost fixed at 30fps, even though there are a few dips here and there that are considered “occasional frame-time spikes but it’s quite uncommon and while there are genuine drops as well, these are all minor” on both the consoles.

For the full analysis, you can check Digital Foundry’s tech analysis and go for the video below if you want to see the game in action before the release of September 7.
