Dev Pitches The Last Of Us-Like The Division Spin-Off

The Division has quite a huge lore, despite being mainly focused on shooting bad guys online with your friends. The Division has quite a considerable lore, despite being mainly focused on shooting bad guys online with your friends. Especially in the original game, Massive Entertainment put a lot of effort in crafting a world which could’ve been believable and rich in terms of story details, and that has paid off in the end.

A dev from TT Games, Tim Spencer, has indeed pitched a single-player spin-off for the franchise in the vein of The Last of Us, something that could heavily lean on the post-apocalyptic side of the story that has been worked on thus far.

The game would be offline and “narrative-driven,” as it would be “focusing on an agent trying to get home to their family after being sent to NYC, during the SHD blackout from the fall of DC. TLOU x Division,” Spencer said in the effort to describe it in a tweet he shared with his friend Julian Gerighty, creative director on The Division.

“None of the stories have explored what a Division agent sacrifices, and what they go through mentally,” he added. “When you think about it: it’s a pretty dark/epic thing – there’s huge opportunity to tell some incredible stories there.”

Gerighty didn’t say what he thinks of the idea but asked his followers for thoughts after retweeting the original pitch. After a few hours, looking at the reactions of fans, he noted that a spin-off like this would “apparently [be] not something people are violently against :).”

Of course, fans would be all in with some The Last of Us-like experience right now. Naughty Dog’s game has shown us that post-apocalyptic settings could be more than just stuff in the vein of Fallout and tell some great, more intimate stories, and also because the potential of this franchise is all over the place.

What are your thoughts, instead?
