AMD is fully working on PS5 technology, which will be consisting of a semi-custom solution featuring both CPU and GPU in one powerful chip.
During an interview, president Dr. Lisa Su shared more information about how this technology will work, hinting at that we should expect more than simple maths once the full specifics get released.
Indeed, AMD is delivering some “special sauce” to Sony to have them release PS5 as a graphics showcase as it has surprisingly happened with some of the biggest PlayStation 4 titles this gen.
“We are so honoured and proud to be part of Sony’s next-generation PlayStation. This has been a really long-term partnership with them. We love gaming. We think gaming is a really good secular growth market,” Su told CNBC.
“What we have done with Sony is really architect something for their application, for their special sauce. It’s a great honor for us. We’re really excited about what the next generation PlayStation will do. And happy to be a part of it.”
We’ve already reported that dev kits are rumored to be running at around 13 teraflops, which is not a huge number for a dev kit if you consider they’re usually much more powerful than the retail unit, but if there’s actually some “special sauce” in the making that makes sense in the end.
PS5 should be released in 2020, and a proper reveal is expected to be held in time for the end of the year or the first half of the next one.
