Rights for the movie were acquired by Warner Bros. several years ago, and now New Line has hired writer Greg Russo for the work on the script. Luckily enough, Russo is one with a lot of experience with movies based on games.
He has worked on the reboot of Mortal Kombat, which is set to start shooting in South Australia later this year. He’s also writing an adaption of Saints Row under F. Gary Gray’s production and direction, on top of rewriting the Resident Evil movie reboot for Constantin Film and Sony. Additionally, he’s doing Death Note 2 for Netflix.
While details are rather sparse on the Space Invaders‘ movie, we do know it is being produced by Weed Road Pictures’ Akiva Goldsman, alongside Safehouse Pictures partners Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell. They have yet to appoint a director.
We don’t know what the movie is going to be like outside of it being about aliens trying to land on Earth. The good thing is that, like the Uncharted movie, Hollywood has started to understand how things work for these adaptions. Hopefully, it’ll grow into something exciting over time.
