Insomniac Games via ResetEra talked about the possibility of Sunset Overdrive and Xbox One X patch for the original game i.e. Sunset Overdrive.
In an interesting Q&A with Insomniac Games’ community lead James Stevenson, few points have been touched that involve other games rather than simply the sole and clearly much anticipated Spider-Man for PS4.
You might remember that, at the beginning of the generation, the developer built an Xbox One exclusive (on the very few to be honest, in a period when Microsoft didn’t publish every game on X1 and Windows 10 simultaneously) called Sunset Overdrive.
Pushed on the matter by the community, Stevenson provided his comment about the possibility that the game might be receiving a Xbox One X patch sooner or later, deploying the full, 4K capable power of the console.
Sadly, he commented that the developer is fully focused on Spider-Man at this point, and that the possibility looks unrealistic at this stage since there would be a need to organize a specific team, with specific resources, at the studio.
“Realistically it’s not in the cards at this point,” his comment on this topic was. “Our engine code is several years developed from Sunset Overdrive, and to re-open that project and try to piece it in there, on a new piece of hardware, plus all of the testing and resources going into it, isn’t something we’re able to do in house. Right now everyone here is focused on Marvel’s Spider-Man.”
On top of that, he added that Insomniac Games has “lots” of ideas about a possible Sunset Overdrive 2 and, while this seems unrealistic too (my opinion, of course), a sequel isn’t ruled out at this moment.
Spider-Man is releasing on September 7, which is quite close now, so who knows what happens in the future for the software house founded by Ted Price.
