Fishing and Hunting unlocks when you had done playing a few hours of starting the game. You get a massive map unlocked divided into different regions. Each region has various locations where you can hunt animals and go for fishing.
Fishing is done through fishing rods, some can be purchased or simply found in the game. These rods have baits that determines what fish you will get. So have a close look on what you are using. You can sell the fish to any vendor in the game and get some cash that can be later used for upgrades.
There is a challenge section in the game, where you will see fishing challenges. Like catching four fish of a specific type. If you complete the challenge you earn a perk point. Unlock Fisher King Perk, it will cost four perk points. This will offer you a new type of flies for heavier fish, also you can catch faster.
You can find Basic Fishing Rod in every marked fishing location in Far Cry 5, so you don’t have to worry much about this. There is a Natural Road that you can buy from Gun Shop. This one is slightly upgraded version. The best rod is Wonderboy Rod, you will get this by completing a quest given by Skylar. You will find her at Dylan’s Master Bait Shop in the Whitetail Mountain region. The last rod if you can look for is Old Betsy Rod, it will help you to catch difficult fish. To get this rod is not easy you will have to beat every regional fishing record. It is good if you can start with Wonderboy Rod.

Fishing Locations in John’s Region (Unlock Fisher King Perk) – HOLLAND VALLEY
Fishing Records Board Location:
You can find the fishing record board in Fall’s End Bar.
Kokanee Salmon Location: Bait – Salmon Egg. (6 Lbs)
This fish can be found on the west side of F.A.N.G center, go extreme west to spot a lake. You have to cross a bridge and visit the location highlighted in the image above.
Bull Trout Location: Bait – Trout Bugger. (21 Lbs)
There is a river that passes through Rae Rae’s pumpkin farm, head to the south side. There is a turning where on the edge you can find the spot to catch Bull Trout.
Rainbow Trout Location: Bait – Trout Bugger. (28 Lbs)
Just on the right of Rae Rae’s pumpkin farm, there is a bridge over the river, you will spot the fish below it.
Pallid Sturgeon Location: Bait – Hybrid Sturgeon. (55 Lbs)
You have to go to the south of Lamb of God Church, a bit further you will reach a mud road that connects to the main road. The fishing spot is at the end of mud road.
Paddlefish Sturgeon Location: Bait – Hybrid Sturgeon. (112 Lbs)
For this fish you have to look at Rye & Sons Aviation, at the bottom left corner there is an edge where the map ends. You have to go behind the house for fishing.
Fishing Locations in Jacob’s Region (Unlock Fisher King Perk) – WHITETAIL MOUNTAINS

You can find the fishing record board in Wolf’s Den.
Kokanee Salmon Location: Bait – Salmon Egg. (6 Lbs)
This fish can be found on the west side of F.A.N.G center, go extreme west to spot a lake. You have to cross a bridge and visit the location highlighted in the image above.
Artic Grayling Salmon Location: Bait – Salmon Egg. (3 Lbs)
You have to travel more left of the above location to fish the Artic Grayling Salmon. There is a small lake at the extreme end where the map fades out.
Golden Trout Location: Bait – Trout Bugger. (4 Lbs)
Go to the right of F.A.N.G Center till you reach a lake with a house on its side. You will have to cross the road for that.
Lake Trout Location: Bait – Trout Bugger. (37 Lbs)
A bit ahead of Fort Drubman, the place where you got the above fish, you will reach an edge of the river. There are around road and bridge on the left.
Chinook Salmon Location: Bait – Salmon Egg. (27 Lbs)
The location to catch this fish is near to F.A.N.G center, you have to walk straight towards the north and look for an intersection. Follow the straight line from that road intersection point, after crossing the wood you will reach a river.
Fishing Locations in Faith’s Region (Unlock Fisher King Perk) – HENBANE RIVER
Fishing Records Board Location:
You can play this fishing record in Hope County Jail.
Rock Bass Location: Bait – Bass Popper. (3 Lbs)
There is a river near of Hope County Jail, you have to take the west direction. A bit ahead after the boating spot you will the region to catch this fish.
Smallmouth Bass Location: Bait – Bass Popper. (6 Lbs)
You have to walk towards the extreme east of Moonflower Trailer Park. The spot is not easy to find, but at the extreme end where the map fades out you will see the fishing spot.
Largemouth Bass Location: Bait – Bass Popper. (8 Lbs)
Now you have to move a bit to the north side of where you found Smallmouth Bass, you will reach a point where the river divides into two parts. That is where you can hunt for Largemouth Bass fish.
