How to chop down a tree in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Some of them just have to go.
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

As you build up your island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you are going to run into some problems. One of those problems are the trees. They look lovely, and they give nice fruit, but after a while, some of them will be in the way.

The solution is to chop them down or move them. To chop down a tree, you will need an Axe, and that Flimsy Axe you get at the start of the game won’t cut it.

There are three tiers of Axe in the game; the Flimsy Axe, the Stone Axe, and the Axe. The Axe will cut down a tree in three hits, but the Flimsy Axe and Stone Axe won’t cut down a tree at all. You should use those when you want to harvest wood, but leave the tree intact.

Axe

You can build the Axe using a Flimsy Axe, three pieces of wood, and one iron nugget. When you cut down a tree, you will be left with a stump. You can dig this up with a shovel, then fill in the hole.

One important thing to remember is that when you place a new tent or building, the trees that it covers will automatically be removed, so you might as well chop them down and get the wood from before they disappear.
