How to build a perfect snowboy in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

How to make a perfect snowboy and gain new DIY recipes.
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

When your island on Animal Crossing: New Horizons hits the wintertime, there are plenty of varying items you can make and find in the game. On the southern hemisphere islands, it will be winter around mid-June, while the northern hemisphere islands winter season starts in December. As like in real life, rolling up snowmen (in the game called snowboys) is one of the community’s favorite things to do in the snowy land. Here is how you can make yourself a perfect snowboy.

To start off, your island obviously will need to be covered in snow. You will find two snowballs positioned in open areas around your island that you will need to make bigger by pushing around. You will need both for the snowboy. If your gate is open for multiplayer play, snowballs will not spawn until it is closed. You can only do this once per day. We should also note that your first attempt will always provide a perfect snowboy, but for each one you make after, follow the guide below.

Roll one of your snowballs until it is about as tall as the top of the eyes of your villager. Generally, you will want to push until your villager slows down while trying to move the ball. If you hit any objects or drop it in water, you will need to enter and exit a building to get a new snowball to spawn. When it is about this size, roll it to an area where you can interact with it without objects blocking it.

The second snowball will need to be rolled around to nearly the same size, but not quite as much. Try and get the height of the ball to around the middle of your character’s ears. When done, roll it towards the first ball to place it on top. Make sure that the ball you are pushing is the smaller one, as whatever you are pushing will always be the one that goes on top. If your ball is too large, you can roll it on ground with no snow to slightly make it smaller.

If you have the right sizes for your snowboy, he will let you know you made a perfect sized boy. Upon doing this, he will give you a DIY recipe for something in the frozen line of items exclusive to making him as well as a Large Snowflake that can be used to craft one of the items. Perfect snowboys will last on your island for three days as they melt away. You can talk to them every day to receive a new Large Snowflake.

While you can only build one snowboy a day, you can have multiple built at a time, so you do not need to wait for the one you currently have to melt before making another. Just build another on the next day.

There are a total of 15 DIY recipes you get for creating perfect snowboys. They are as follows:

  • Frozen Arch
  • Frozen Bed
  • Frozen Chair
  • Frozen Counter
  • Frozen Partition
  • Frozen Pillar
  • Frozen Sculpture
  • Frozen Table
  • Frozen-Treat Set
  • Frozen Tree
  • Ice Flooring
  • Ice Wall
  • Ice Wand
  • Snowperson Head
  • Three-Tiered Snowperson

Crafting each one of these will require one Large Snowflake among other resources, so be sure to consistently gather them from your perfect snowboys.
