How to complete the Gerbil Took the Top Head mission in Control AWE

Fly me to the moon.

The Gerbil Took the Top Head mission in Control AWE is one of the expansion’s most surreal missions. That’s saying something given how weird Remedy Entertainment’s game is, but when you consider what the quest entails, it is a strange one.

You can access the Gerbil Took the Top Head mission once you have forced Shaded Hartman to retreat in the Fra Mauro AWE area. Once he’s gone, head to the holding cell in the middle of the room next to the lunar landing vehicle.

If you speak to the prisoner inside the cell — who isn’t making any sense due to their garbled English — you will be tasked with bringing them a specific item. There are five items in the Fra Mauro AWE room that you can try to give the prisoner. Each item is located in a different research office within this room. Grab each one in turn, and try to give them to the prisoner through the hatch in the holding cell.

After you have tried all five items, the prisoner will tell you that it wants you to find the “head.” To do so, travel to the Sector Head Office. You can retrace your steps to the first room of the Investigations Sector, or fast travel to it using one of the Control Points that you should have been activating during the AWE expansion.

Once you are there, you have to fight a Hiss soldier known as Ranger Sergeant Hooton. They are a level nine enemy, so they can do significant damage to you if you are not careful. Hide behind the pillars in the middle of the room, and duck out every so often to fire your Service Weapon or Launch items at them.

Once Hooton has been defeated, levitate into the room that they were in. Grab the space suit helmet on the desk, and fast travel back to Fra Mauro. Give the helmet to the prisoner to complete the mission and receive your rewards.
