How To Unlock Koraidon & Miraidon’s Flying Ability In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Koraidon or Miraidon may learn to glide towards the end of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, but in the Indigo Disk DLC they'll learn to really fly

Players may have thought the glide ability was the closest we’d get to flight in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, but we thought wrong. The upcoming Indigo Disk DLC will let us unlock the ability to truly fly on Koraidon or Miraidon.

As you progress through Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, you feed your buddy sandwiches that help it regain its former strength and unlock new abilities. One of the later abilities Koraidon or Miraidon unlocks is its glide ability, which lets you channel Buzz Lightyear and fall in style. While this is useful, it’s not the same as soaring to new heights, and apparently, we’ll be able to do that soon enough with the upcoming Indigo Disk release.

If you’re thinking, “But wait, can’t I already fly in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet?” you’re not alone. In the base game, the glide ability is the nearest thing to flying on the back of the travel Pokemon. This ability is unlocked through the Path of Legends questline with Arven. Glide is one of the last abilities that you’ll help your companion remember in the base game.

However, with the addition of the Indigo Disk DLC, players will be able to unlock the ability to actually fly on Koraidon or Miraidon rather than simply gliding. This means you can go higher once you start flying rather than simply slowly drifting towards the ground.

In the leadup to the Indigo Disk DLC, the official Pokemon website shared that players will be able to fly on Koraidon or Miraidon once they reach a certain point. We now know that “certain point” means pretty much finishing up the main storyline of the Indigo Disk.

This flight ability is initially unlocked through a challenge called the Elite Trial, which is set by Amarys, one of the BB League’s Elite Four Members. During her trial, she feeds your Pokemon a special supplement that lets them fly so you can complete the challenge. The effects of this supplement wear off after you complete the challenge, making it seem like flight was but a fleeting dream.

However, you can get more of this special supplement from Amarys once you complete the main storyline of The Indigo Disk.

To do so, you’ll need to have defeated all of the BB League Elite Four, plus Kieran. Then, you’ll be able to find Amarys in Blueberry Academy’s classroom 3-2. Talk to her, and she’ll share that she’s so pleased to see things back to normal in the League Club that she made a bunch more of the special flight supplement.

She gifts it to you with the initial intent that you’ll feed a little bit to Miaraidon / Kiraidon when you want to fly, but the ever-hungry companion Pokemon will eat it all in one gulp, earning the permanent ability to fly in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.

How to Use Miraidon / Kiraidon Flight Ability

Once you visit Amarys at Blueberry Academy and unlock flight in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, using it is pretty simple. First, begin gliding on your Pokemon by jumping, then hitting the “B” button a second time.

Once you’re gliding, simply press down on the left stick and your Miraidon or Kiraidon will begin flying. Then you can go higher by tilting the left stick up, or increase your speed and go lower by tilting the left stick down. If you want to go back to gliding, just press the left stick again and you’ll be able to gently glide to the ground.
