Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has debuted at No. 2 in the United Kingdom last week, just below FIFA 19 in the sales chart. The game has sold 26 percent fewer copies than last year’s Origins but, as reported by GamesIndustry.biz, there are a few catches.
First of all, the chart only accounts physical sales and, considering how big and appealing the season pass is this time around, many might have chosen that way instead of the classic retail purchase.
Second, Odyssey has released only one year after Origins while the latter had came after a two-year hiatus for the series and a huge revamp in core mechanics, so it was more anticipated.
On top of that, consider that it released one month before the usual November release window, which will probably allow it to have a longer tail into the holiday season, and that we’re only a couple weeks from Red Dead Redemption 2.
Other new entries feature Forza Horizon 4, which gained an impressive third position with better debut sales than FH3 (again, impressive, if you consider it’s on Game Pass since day one), Fist of the North Star (21st) and Astro Bot (22nd).
Here’s the full chart:
- FIFA 19
- Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
- Forza Horizon 4
- Marvel’s Spider-Man
- Super Mario Party
- Shadow of the Tomb Raider
- Tekken 7
- Crash Trilogy
- Project Cars 2
