In a new interview just released to the Official Xbox Magazine, quest designer Patrick Mills has revealed more information about Cyberpunk 2077’s story and themes, addressing the likes of ethics and politics.

Mills told the magazine that Cyberpunk has, as a universe, some prerogatives in common with The Witcher franchise, in terms of how things work between wealthy people and those who don’t have their fair share of money.

“Cyberpunk 2077 is a game about people with power at the top and people at the bottom with none. That power can come from money, hierarchies, technology and violence,” he told OPM, as reported by PC Gamer.

“The original Cyberpunk 2020 setting, like the setting of The Witcher stories, was a complex critique of the author’s world, and we don’t shy away from that in our games.

On the contrary, I think it’s one of the things that sets us apart […] Cyberpunk is an inherently political genre and it’s an inherently political franchise.”

That’s nice to see that, especially when you consider that shying away from similar themes would’ve made some disservice to the original intellectual property, being it all about people who suffers and finds bad solutions to that suffering like drugs and crime.

Cyberpunk 2077 is coming to PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
