Metacritic is introducing a brand new badge for the games with the best review scores on the platform. The badge will label the titles you “Must Play” and will be an elite tier for the best products around.
“In our ongoing efforts to help our users pick out the very best in entertainment at a glance, we have added a ‘Must-Play’ designation for our highest-scoring games, representing those releases deemed by a consensus of top professional game critics as truly exceptional,” said the website in a note.
“We designate a game as ‘Must-Play’ when it achieves a Metascore of 90 or higher and has been reviewed by a minimum of 15 professional critics,” added Metacritic, remarking the parameters necessary to have access to this badge.
This year, through September 12, 13 games (some of them across different versions) are being included in the list of the “Must-Play” ones:
- Bayonetta 2 (Switch) – 93
- Celeste (Switch) – 92
- Dead Cells (Switch) – 90
- Dead Cells (Xbox One) – 91
- Divinity: Original Sin II – Definitive Edition (PS4) – 92
- God of War (PS4) – 94
- Hollow Knight (Switch) – 90
- Inside (Switch) – 91
- Monster Hunter World (Xbox One) – 90
- Monster Hunter World (PS4) – 90
- Nier Automata Become as Gods Edition (Xbox One) – 90
- Shadow of the Colossus (PS4) – 91
- Sonic Mania Plus (Switch) – 91
But how many games are now part of the “Must-Play” program? Well, at this stage “just over 4% of eligible games in Metacritic’s database qualify for “Must-Play” status,” which is rather impressive considering how many great titles are covered in the platform right now.
