Nintendo Switch has had a huge first year but kind of failed to keep momentum when it came to sales in the second.
The platform holder had a 38 million target by the end of March 2019, but that’s something the console hasn’t come more than close, standing by a forecast of 35 million.
The situation is not going to improve anytime soon, analysts believe, but there are a couple move that could help Nintendo try and change it.
In particular, those contacted by Bloomberg, among which you can find Michael Pachter, claim there should be a price cut to turn things around or a new version, perhaps tailored for kids.
The main issue is indeed the console is mainly a handheld one, and to be competitive in that segment you need to have a better pricing.
“2018 was a reality check and brought lofty expectations back down to Earth,” said Wedbush Securities’ Michael Pachter.
“The Switch is great, but is still primarily a handheld, and a very expensive one. I don’t see sales growing unless the price is reduced to below US$200,” he added, hinting at why sales have staled.
Considering that a price cut would kill Nintendo 3DS, something the company isn’t willing to do anytime soon, there could be a new version on the horizon.
Perhaps a cheaper one that could help Nintendo penetrate a new market share, since Switch has thus far embraced only by core gamers (and that’s the reason why sales are staling now).
So, would you enjoy a meaty price cut for the console?
