PlayStation 4 was the best selling console in April, according to NPD Group data, in North America. The data further confirm that Sony is leading the generation over a long slate of countries around the world.

Interestingly, NPD Group notes that in dollar sales the PS4 Pro 1TB Limited Edition God of War bundle was the hottest hardware item throughout the month, but that the Nintendo Switch 32GB with Neon Red/Blue JoyCon was the highest in unit sales.

It’s also worth noting that PlayStation 4 has had the best April in nine years, selling more units than any other console in this specific month of the year. The record was previously hold by Nintendo Wii, something that also gives an idea of how much successful this console is currently being although five years in its lifecycle have already passed.

The month was pretty good overall, with hardware sales growing by 15% on a year over year basis and accessories achieving a whopping 89% growth (particularly thanks to the headsets, which probably leads to the popularity of battle royale games).

Overall, people in North America has spent 18% more than the same month last year in gaming, which is a very positive result and one that helps the industry look with a positive vibe at the upcoming E3 2018.
