Shenmue I & II are being brought to modern systems this August, when the collection by SEGA releases in the wait for the third chapter, made by series creator Yu Suzuki’s Ys Net, to launch next year.
Interestingly, thanks to the FAQ coming from the official website, we learn which is the version of Shenmue II which is being ported onto PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
As you might remember, Shenmue I was a Dreamcast exclusive, while Shenmue II also dropped on the original Xbox. So there was room for SEGA to carefully select which version to use when it came to the porting.
Then, the Japanese publisher and developer told d3t, which is doing all the work here, to go for the Xbox version of Shenmue II, as revealed in the FAQ posted on the official website.
“For technical reasons, we started with the Xbox source code and data. This has the advantage of some additional features missing from the Dreamcast version: Snapshots system, Filters, Texture mip-maps to improve anti-aliasing,” the site says.
“As some community members will know, the Xbox does have some graphical differences to the DC version which will also be present in our version.”
On top of that, it was added that the Shenmue I & II collection will provide us with 16:9 screen ratio across all the gameplay, while it’ll go letterbox when it’ll come to cut-scenes, as in the original releases.
The release date is slated for August 21, 2018 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
