BAN GTA V as it promotes Violence says U.S. Senator

A U.S Senator Joe Manchin wants a complete banned of GTA franchise and upcoming installment GTA V because of how it promotes violence. This comment of U.S. Senator Joe Manchin came while he was discussing on The Sandy Hook tragedy.

GTA 5 ViolenceIn a recent interview to MSNBC, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin said the following thing about Rockstar's GTA series, "Look at Grand Theft Auto, put out by Rockstar Games in New York City and see what it promotes. Shouldn’t that be looked into and maybe be banned?"

According to me this is really a weird comment and shows the thinking level of a Senate. It's an unfair thing to blame a video-game series for a particular real-life tragedy, isn't it?.

Before games it was violent books. then heavy metal. then films. society cant take responsibility for its inability to control deranged people and restrict access to firearms. gotta blame something. didnt we used to blame Satan for shit like this? "pokemon made me crush that moth!"

And what a remarkable little catholic you must be. A full on ban in today's world would be perfectly acceptable, considering the attitude of pretty much every little commenter here. Kids seem to have no morals these days (proof right here in the contents), until present can be patents and kids learn habits from anything other than their games. What a shining example you guys are.

have mass shooters also eaten at the same burger joint? or drank a particular soda? maybe one thing they have in common is the used automatic weapons to murder people. almost everybody plays games and if somone does a murder, chances are they have played gta. doesnt mean every gamer will do murders.

The Senator is full of shit. It has nothin' to do with the game. If you dumb enough and stupid enough to inmitate GTA, (scoffs) your ass will either get tear apart by the cops, Death Penalty in prison or life in prison. I been playing Grand Theft Auto since I was 10. I play them for fun and entertainment. It's just an Autistic guy who made a deadly decision for some reason who knows. In that case I'm diagnois with Autism too. I have no sense in doing such a thing.

This senator does not know what he's talking about, first of all, Adam Lanza, the guy did all the murders at Sandy Hook, I'm not being rude, but Adam Lanza was mentally retarded, and he wasn't influenced by any video game to do the murders, he just didn't know what was the right thing to do, and i find it ridiculous that that people are blaming video games for things like this, second of all, that's what ratings are for, yes parents these days don't care too much for the ratings, but that's what they are there for! So, kids and parents know what games to buy and not buy for their children. Really senator, get your facts straight.

The senator does not know what he is talking about same with everyone else who agrees with him. Video games DO NOT promote violence the sandy hook shooting had nothing to do with a video game. If your all right in the head then you would know video games are fake and not try to recreate it in real life. The people who try to do what they do in a game are not right in the head. So banning video games is NOT the solution just like that gun ban it's completely ridiculous.

How many people play violent video games? How many people who play those games commit mass shootings? How many people who play those games commit mass shootings outside America? Video games are not the issue. Quit looking for something to blame and accept the fact that the only people to blame for mass shootings are the perpetrators themselves

This guy is an idiot; all politicians are and I say that with a clear conscience. GTA does not even have kids in it, as far as I know (only played Lost and Damned and Ballad of Gay Tony, so I may know little about the series). GTA did not kill those kids. An unstable man who had access to guns killed those people. I blame more mind screwers like Manchin for the problems in this world than I do video games.

These "Ban violence in media" speeches and campaigns are getting old. Yes, what happened to those children was tragic but people have got to start taking responsibility. It takes more than just seeing violence in movies, TV or games for someone to go out and commit murder. the combined amount of people playing violent games or watching violence on TV or in the movies is FAR more than the amount of shootings. Try looking for the actual problem not just blaming it on something else. These kind of games are rated M for a reason, they're meant to be played by mature people. That being said I do feel violent games shouldn't be played by unbalanced people.

This is virtually the same as saying all planes will be banned as a result of 9/11. Why don't they prevent mentally unstable people from possessing weapons instead of letting a few extremely disturbed people from ruining the entertainment of millions of normal people who know the difference from reality and a game. This is just common sense, i find it worrying that a us senator fails to see this. No way would this ban win a public vote. The ban on guns would be bad but to ban gta would be pure corruption.

BAN GTA V?? What a idiot Senate Joe Manchin! There is plenty of violent games beside GTA. I seen some game that more violent than GTA IV. Like Sleeping Dog, you can kill people some certain object like put enemy head down in AC fan that cut face off and blood flying out. Call of Duty too, as first person shoot simulation. And Saint Row 2, you can kill people with sledge hammer and chainsaw.

I find it hard to take this even a little seriously. This man clearly has a bar set way too low in a world where violent media is accepted as a legitimate form of entertainment, not to mention the fact that it's completely safe in the hands of mentally healthy individuals. Come on, let people explore the darker side of life from the comfort of their own home if they like. The only people using these games to fuel crime are the ones that should be locked up in the mental hospitals.

If that's what the Senator thinks should happen than next time a US soldier pee's on an Arab body , consider banning Call of Duty , because I'm sure tired of their crap and they sure make 'an easy target'.

Even if it is banned in America, England will still get it, a hacker wil leak the .ISO image online and Americans can still access it, so it would be a waste of time. Many worse things out there than GTA. GTA V is an 18 (M) for a reason!

I'm getting tired of idiots accusing games of promoting violence... Honestly, do they even consider the great number of other influences that could cause someone to be violent, or is it that he wants an easy target, one that can just be banned?
