Aerodactyl is an available raid Pokémon you can defeat and capture in Pokémon Go. It’s traditionally a three-star raid, which means most trainers at a higher level, with the correct Pokémon, can take it down. While it does help to have an additional friend or two to take it down, you should be able to defeat it. You can randomly find an Aerodactyl raid in any of the available Gyms in the game, and if a three-star raid egg is about to hatch if you have a good chance of seeing it spawn. It can potentially be a shiny Aerodactyl.
Aerodactyl is a Flying and Rock-type Pokémon, making it weak to Electric, Ice, Rock, Steel, and Water-type attacks. It is resistant to Bug, Fire, Flying, Ground, Normal, and Poison-type attacks, which you should steer clear from.
Pokémon to counter Aerodactyl
The best Pokémon you want to use against the Aerodactyl in the raid include Metagross, Swampert, and Rhyperior.
Metagross is an excellent Steel and Psychic-type to use in the raid. It has several Steel-type attacks that it can use against it and can reach a maximum CP of 3,791, an attack of 257, a defense of 228, and stamina of 190. You want yours to know bullet punch and flash cannon or meteor mash to use against Aerodactyl. The other charge moves are useful, but not in this raid.
The second choice is the PvP powerhouse Swampert, the Ground and Water-type Pokémon. It’s a favorite to use by most battle league trainers, so many players should go out of their way to try to add a Swampert to their team. It has the maximum CP of 2,974, an attack of 208, a defense of 175, and a stamina of 225. You want to use one that knows water gun and surf, muddy water, or hydro cannon. Any of those three charge moves should be a suitable match against Aerodactyl.
The final optimal choice is Rhyperior, the Rock and Ground-type Pokémon. While it has a variety of weaknesses, it should be a superb pick to use in the raid. It has a maximum CP of 3,733, an attack of 241, a defense of 190, and stamina of 251. It’s a carefully calculated choice to use in the battle league, but perfect for raid battles. You want to use one that knows smack down and rock wrecker or stone edge.
While these three choices are great options against Aerodactyl, they are not the only ones. You can also use Empoleon, Electivire, Raikou, Feraligatr, Mamoswine, Excadrill, Kingler, Luxray, Galarian Darmanitan, and Tyranitar. When attempting to face Aerodactyl, you want to make sure you use a variety of Pokémon that cover its weaknesses to make every attack against it count. Once you defeat it, you can expect to try to capture it with a variety of premier balls you receive at the end of the raid based on your performance. The Aerodactyle you catch at the end will have a CP of 1,515 to 1,590, or 1,894 to 1,988 if weather boosted.
