How to unlock customization

You will need to have done the following in-game milestones to unlock the customization options:

Both of the above tasks need to be done for Tom Nook, so talk to him regularly while playing, and he will always point you in the right direction to get the jobs done.

Once they are complete, Tom Nook will offer you a workshop on customization at Resident Services, so head over there and speak with him again.

How to customize your items

Once the workshop is complete, you can customize items at a workbench using a customization kit. Select the item you wish to change, and you will see all the options that are available for that item. The different combinations of changes that you can make will have a varying cost in Customization Kits, depending on what you choose to do.

You can get Customization Kits from Nook’s Xranny for 600 Bells, and you will get 50 for free from Tom Nook when you complete the workshop.

Make sure you experiment with each item, and the available options, to get a nice look that you want, as it can be the difference between a truly beautiful island or living in the same place as every other player.
