What are Shooting Stars in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

Keep your eyes up.
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

If you have been exploring your island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons at night time, you might have noticed shooting stars streaking across the sky. If you suspected that there is some mechanic behind them, you are correct. You can wish upon a shooting star to get Star Fragments to make a special item, the magic wand.

The best way to find shooting stars is to go to a clear area of your island with minimal trees at night time. Stand there looking at the sky, and angle the camera up using the right thumb stick.

How to Get Star Fragments

Shooting stars will appear randomly at night, and sometimes an NPC will give you some warning that they will be happening. If you see a shooting star, use the right stick to point your characters head towards the sky, then hit A to make a wish upon the star.

If it works, the star will grow a little bright as it travels by and then you will be able to hunt for Star Fragments the following day. The day after wishing on a star, Fragments, both types, will be washing up on the beach, so make sure you check every beach on your island and gather them all up. The Large Star Fragment will be pretty rare, and you usually only get one each time.

And that’s it, everything you need to know to get your Star Fragments.
