A few hours ago, we reported about Deep Silver and Epic Games‘ deal over the Epic Games Store PC launch exclusivity for Metro Exodus.

It didn’t take much time for Valve to react to the news, which means that Steam won’t get the game on sale until February 15, 2020.

The studio held by Gabe Newell posted a note on the Steam page of the game, noting anyway that it’s going to be on Steam for users who’ve pre-ordered.

“Sales of Metro Exodus have been discontinued on Steam due to a publisher decision to make the game exclusive to another PC store,” says the page.

“The developer and publisher have assured us that all prior sales of the game on Steam will be fulfilled on Steam, and Steam owners will be able to access the game and any future updates or DLC through Steam.”

Later in the note, it is mentioned that this behavior by Deep Silver and Epic Games is “unfair” for the users.

“We think the decision to remove the game is unfair to Steam customers, especially after a long pre-sale period.

We apologize to Steam customers that were expecting it to be available for sale through the February 15th release date, but we were only recently informed of the decision and given limited time to let everyone know.”

So, it’s worth adding that Valve had “limited time” before the news was officially announced, and could not inform its users properly.

It’s a quite weird situation, with Epic being particularly aggressive on the theme of exclusives since it’s offering an 88% revenue split in comparison with the 70% devs usually get on Steam.

We’ll see how Valve will react to this very aggressive policy from the competitor, rather than merely notifying its customers about things that have already happened and can’t be changed.
