Is the Royal Longsword good in Genshin Impact?

It depends.

The Royal Longsword is available through Paimon’s Bargains in the Genshin Impact Shop for 24 Starglitter. Travelers are wondering if the weapon is worth investing in, and like most things in Genshin Impact, this is a good deal more complicated than a simple yes or no answer.

There is a lot to consider when you are thinking about investing in the Royal Longsword, so let’s take a look at the stats, what the Royal Sword does, and who might benefit from it.

Royal Longsword Stats

  • 4 Star
  • Base Attack at Level 1 – 42
  • Secondary Stat Type – ATK
  • Secondary State boost – 9% at Level 1
  • Bonus – Upon dealing damage to an opponent, increases CRIT Rate by 8%. Max 5 stacks. A CRIT hit removes all existing stacks.

The first thing to consider about any 4 Star weapon is that a 5 Star weapon will be better than it. This is simply the way the game works. If you are a whale who likes throwing money at the game, you more than likely have a better sword already.

Where the Royal Longsword shines is as a solid choice for the main DPS of any free-to-play player. Landing Crits is one of the easiest ways to boost your damage output in Genshin Impact, and that Crit Rate bonus will give you a 40% Crit Rate bonus after 5 strikes without scoring a critical hit. It is also additive, so will work in conjunction with whatever your Crit Rate bonus is from your artifact set.

In practice, what tends to happen is that the stacking bonus will proc before five hits, then reset, then proc again, and reset, giving you an edge in scoring your Critical Strikes.

The most important thing to consider when thinking about the Royal Longsword is how easy it is to refine. Anytime it appears in the shop, you can buy it up to three times that month, which means refining to level 3 is easy. All you need to do to refine it to level 5 is wait for it to appear in the shop again. At Refinement Level 5, the Royal Longsword will give you a 16% Crit Rate bonus when you damage an enemy, stacking up to five times for a total 80% Crit Rate bonus. This is high enough to allow you to focus more on Crit Damage in your Artifacts, once again boosting your DPS.

The secondary benefits are also very nice indeed. A straight percentage increase to your ATK stat is ideal for your main DPS, and at level 90, the Royal Longsword gives a 41.3% buff to your ATK. This makes it great for Longsword healers like QiQi and will boost the amount of healing she does with each attack.

More than anything, the benefit of the Royal Longsword is certainty. You know you can get it, you know you can refine it, and while it can be outperformed by other weapons, getting them is often a game of chance. Are there better weapons in the game? Yes, but that doesn’t matter if you don’t actually have them. If you need a good sword for a Longsword character that you want to use as a main DPS, then this is a fine option.
