What the Gifts of Light and Dark do in Destiny 2

Get to grinding, Guardians.

You will find yourself frequently visiting the Prismatic Recaster to turn in Twisted Energy, Altered Element, and plenty of other new pieces of currency during the Season of Arrivals in Destiny 2. You can find it to the left of The Drifter, in the lower areas of the Tower. On the right side of the Umbral Affinity choices, there’s an option for called Gifts of Light and Dark.

The Gifts of Light and Dark is another vendor section at the Prismatic Recaster. You can use it to purchase different ranks of various Umbral Gifts. There are three different ranks for each Umbral Gift. To unlock any of the gifts, you will need to consistently level up your Prismatic Recaster, and to do that, you need to complete the Weekly and Daily bounties at this station.

The more bounties you complete, the more Twisted Energy and Altered Element you can earn. Of the two options, Twisted Energy will directly level up the Prismatic Recaster, and you can earn that by completing the Weekly bounties. You will always find two weekly activities available at the station following the Tuesday Reset of Destiny 2.

Here are all of the available gifts from the Light and Dark section:

Rank I

  • Umbral Enhancement I: Unlocks basic Umbral Focusing capabilities for the Prismatic Recaster.
  • Umbral Discovery I: Once a day, earn a bonus Umbral Engram by completing a playlist strike, Nightfall: The Ordeal, Crucible or Gambit Match, Dungeon, raid, or Menagerie Activity
  • Contact Specialist I: Slightly increases the chance of finding Umbral Engrams by successfully completing Contact public events
  • Prismatic Transmutation I: Umbral Engrams awarded from successful heroic Contact public event completions gain a 5 percent chance to transform into a random Focused Umbral Engram.
  • Blood into Stone I: Defeating Elite or Champion combatants with finishers has a 5 percent chance to drop material from that destination.
  • Free-focus Lens I: Increase the quantity of free weekly focuses for basic Umbral Focusing to 4.
  • Umbral Mastery I: Umbral Surge – Decrypting Umbral Engrams injects a small amount of Twisted Energy directly into the Prismatic Recaster. The first 3 Umbral Engrams decrypted each week award gear at a higher power.

Rank II

  • Umbral Enhancement II: The Prismatic Recaqster influences the behavior of Umbral Engrams and Twisted Energy. Decrypting any Umbral Engram now provides shaders, and unfocused Umbral Engrams gain a low chance to award Exotic gear. Earning Twisted Energy immediately injects it into the Prismatic Recaster.
  • Umbral Discovery II: Twice a day, earn a bonus Umbral Engram by completing a playlist strike, Nightfall: The Ordeal, Crucible or Gambit Match, Dungeon, raid, or Menagerie Activity

  • Prismatic Transmutation I: Umbral Engrams awarded from successful heroic Contact public event completions gain a 10 percent chance to transform into a random Focused Umbral Engram.

  • Free-focus Lens II: Increase the quantity of free weekly focuses for basic Umbral Focusing to 5.

Rank III

  • Umbral Enhancement III: Weapons obtained from Focused Umbral Engrams drop with an additional alternate final perk. Armor obtained from Focused Umbral Engrams has a chance to drop with a higher stat value.
  • Umbral Discovery III: Three times a day, earn a bonus Umbral Engram by completing a playlist strike, Nightfall: The Ordeal, Crucible or Gambit Match, Dungeon, raid, or Menagerie Activity
