How to catch and beat Giratina in Pokémon Go
Things are about to get really spooky these next couple of weeks on Pokémon Go as the Renegade Pokémon Giratina descends onto your mobile devices.
The devil-like Pokémon was added to the game on Oct. 23 and was the first Sinnoh legendary Pokémon to appear in Legendary Raids. He will be available until Nov. 20, 2018, on his first appearance.
How To Catch Giratina In Pokemon Go
Giratina can only be found in level-five raid battles at various gyms throughout the overworld. Finding Giratina is simple, but battling it is incredibly difficult. To help you out, here are a few tips you can use when trying to take down one of Pokemon Go's latest legendary offerings.
Before going into battle, it's vital to find a group of trainers to take on Giratina with you. A large number of trainers is needed to take on Legendary Raids, so you should try to at least grab a group of 10+ people.
Next, you'll want to make sure that you have the right Pokémon to take on Giratina.
Giratina is a Ghost and Dragon-type Pokemon, so having strong Ice, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, or Fairy-type Pokémon is a must. Umbreon, Gardevoir, or Gengar are all good choices, but feel free to mix and match to your leisure.
You need to make sure that your lineup of Pokémon is strong. Having Pokémon that are near or over 2,000 to 3,000 Combat Points (CP) will keep you in the fight for as long as you can.
You'll next want to make sure to group up with friends on your friends-list. Having friends in the same raid as you not only increase the chance of a successful capture at the end of the fight, but it also boosts your attack power while you fight. The stronger the friendship level, the more extra damage you will deal.
The fight won’t be easy, but it can be done. By doing everything above, you can significantly increase your odds of defeating Giratina. Once you defeat it, the next step will be to try to catch it.
After completing a raid, each trainer that participated in the fight will be given individual in-game items as rewards. Trainers will also receive a certain number of raid-specific Pokéballs to try to catch a weaker version of the Legendary Raid boss.
If you are teaming up with people on your in-game friends' list, you will also receive more Pokéballs to give you a few extra chances, so be sure to add everyone to your friend list before taking it on. The higher the level, the more Pokéballs you will get at the end of the fight when trying to capture it.
It’s incredibly difficult to capture a Legendary Pokémon, so we strongly recommend using Golden Razz Berries to boost your chances of catching the Pokémon.
If you fail to catch the Legendary Pokémon, you’ll need to find another Legendary Raid in a different location, battle the Pokémon again, and hope that you will capture it this time around.
Giratina won't be around for long, so be sure to get out there while you can. There is no telling when it will return to raids in the future.
