The Division 2 | The Importance of Skill Power

The Importance of Skill Power

Recommended Videos

If you’ve been playing The Division 2 for any amount of time, then you’ve noticed that pieces of armor, mods, and weapons have various stats. This includes things like critical chance, critical damage, health, armor, and skill power. All of these are greatly important, but it’s easy to dismiss a stat like skill power. Many players, especially newer to the game, will want to raise armor, health, and damage as much as possible which is fine, but ignoring skill power is a mistake. Beefing up that stat will not only change how the game is played but relieve some serious challenge pressure.

Skill power is a number you may have seen in the character screen just under health and armor. If you’ve never noticed that number before, then it’s probably a low number. This stat determines what mods can be effectively used with the skill categories; drone, turret, chem launcher, etc. Using these skill categories are helpful on their own, but once you add the mods that allow for the longer duration, shorter cool-downs, or more armor, then it changes the game for good.

Most of these mods can only be used if at a certain skill power. For instance, a cool-down for the turret might have a mod that requires skill power level 456. You’re probably looking at your skill power right now and wondering why it isn’t that high. Never fret. There’s a solution. Whenever looting out in the wild or buying armor from the shops, always consider if a piece of armor has skill power percentages or points. This does not mean that you should take a detrimental hit to armor and health just for skill power. That would be counterproductive. Instead, make sure skill power remains above the 400s for the most part, while maintaining the other stats as well. There will be times that a small sacrifice has to be made for the sake of another stats, but it’s always worth it in the end.

Later in the game, things like skill power and armor stats won’t matter as much as gear level, but if you haven’t reached that point, don’t worry about that just yet. For now, balance those stats and experiment with what works in your favor.
