If there is one thing people have learned quickly about Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, it is that Spell Energy makes the world go round. You need it to collect Foundables, and you need it for fighting the various enemies that inhabit the game. Spell Energy is represented by a small lightning bolt symbol in the lower left-hand corner of your screen, and if you run out, you are pretty much done playing until you can gather up some more. Think of it as being very much like Pokeballs in Niantic’s other augmented reality game, Pokemon GO.

How To Get More Spell Energy

You can carry a maximum of 75 Spell Energy when you first start playing the game, but as you use it on Foundables, and fighting, you will notice your supply diminishes rapidly. There are two main ways to get more Spell Energy.

First, you can visit an Inn. These function a lot like Pokestops in Pokemon GO (you should get used to Pokemon GO being used as an easy reference when talking about Wizards Unite). You can see them on your map and need to walk to them. When you are close enough to an Inn location in real life, you can enter it, and will be offered some food. The plates of food will shuffle themselves, and you will need to cast whatever spell the game presents. When you are successful, you will be rewarded with up to ten Spell Energy. Inn’s have a cooldown (sound familiar?), and you will need to wait five minutes until you can interact with that same Inn again. You can also go to another Inn, then return to the first one back.

You can also use Gold Coins to buy Spell Energy, and Spell Energy capacity, in Diagon Alley, the games shop. Just go to Wiseacres in the Diagon Alley section, and you can buy 50 Spell Energy for 100 Gold Coins. Finally, you can get a smaller amount of Spell Energy from visiting a Greenhouse, up to 4 Spell Energy each time.

It is important to remember that these augmented reality games involve a lot of walking around in the real world; it is one of the best things about them. If you are running low on most of your resources, or need an item or Foundable, the easiest way to fix the issue is to head out for a stroll. Knowing where the local Inns are will be a great help, and allow you to plan a good route to get as much Spell Energy as possible, so keep an eye on the in-game map.
