These are the notably red Pokémon you have an increased chance to capture while you’re off on your Pokémon Go escapades during the event:

  • Charmeleon
  • Corphish
  • Flareon
  • Foongus
  • Jynx
  • Kricketot
  • Magikarp
  • Magmar
  • Parasect
  • Slugma
  • Voltorb
  • Vulpix
  • Wurmple

Usually, some of these Pokémon are only available in select regions—Magmar, for example, you can typically find closer to beaches and residential areas. But during the event, you might be able to find them in areas you generally wouldn’t encounter them, giving you the chance to add them to your roster. On top of that, all players have a slim chance of meeting a red Shiny Gyarados, but those are extremely rare, so you may need to spend a great deal of time wandering around to locate it.

The new Pokémon coming to Pokémon Go, Darumaka, is a Fire-type Pokémon. Unlike the others listed above, you won’t be able to find Darumaka by wandering around. Instead, you need to rely on finding it inside of 7 km eggs and placing those into incubators. So, while you’re off catching your new red Pokémon, make sure you have incubators ready to count all of your steps to increase the potential to add another new Pokémon to your roster.

The Lunar New Year event begins on Jan. 24 at 1pm and goes until Feb. 3 at 1pm in your local area.
