In Fire Emblem: Three Houses, fishing is a mini-game that you can perform on your days off as you explore the Monastery. It can be a great way to earn some experience, so you should do it when you can. It can also get you some fish that you will need to cook certain recipes.

How To Unlock Fishing

Fishing Pond

To unlock fishing, after you arrive at the Monastery and become a new Professor there, you need to head to any bulletin board. One of the quests on the bulletin board will ask you to go fishing. Just follow the quest steps, and head for the fishing pond. Here you will find an NPC who looks after the pong. Chat with them to start fishing. Once you have finished this quest, you can return to fish any time you like on your free days.

How To Fish In Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Fishing works in a very simply manner in Fire Emblem. As you stand at the dock, a fish will bite the line. A symbol will appear on the screen, and you will need to hit A. When this happens, a small mini-game will start. You are trying to hit A as the ring passes the dark purple part of the circle. Each time you hit A takes away some energy from the fish, the closer you get to that dark purple ring, the more energy it will take. When all the energy is gone, you will catch the fish.

You don’t have to catch the first fish that comes your way, and instead can wait for a better fish to show up. Check the shadow of the fish in the water. A bluefish is common; a redfish is uncommon, and golden fish is rare. Obviously, the rarer the fish, the better.

You also need to consider the bait. You can purchase bait from merchants; some characters might give you some bait also. The merchant’s supply will restock every month, so don’t be afraid to buy it all.

Baits will attract different rarities of fish. Invest Larva is the most basic bait, then Pond Snail, Earthworm, Blowfly, and Herring Bait. Different baits can also show up during certain quests.
