Red Dead Online lets you simulate your cowpoke life however you like in a meticulously detailed world, but sometimes the realism can be a nuisance. For instance, you’ll have to keep your guns in good shape by regularly cleaning them. This isn’t too complicated in itself. You can take your arsenal to any nearby gunsmith for a cleaning or get some Gun Oil so you can do so yourself.
This is made easier when Rockstar Games makes Gun Oil free. Gunsmiths will sell out of Gun Oil once you reached the max number you can hold (20), but we’ve found a workaround that will let you get 99 Gun Oil for free.
Purchase through your Wild West App
You can get around the 20 Gun Oil cap by purchasing more Gun Oil on the RDR2: Companion app, which can be accessed through your browser or downloaded through your app store. You’ll need a Rockstar Social Club account linked to your game, but this can be done easily and for free. Once you have the app set up, go into the catalog section and search for Gun Oil. You will now be able to purchase up to 99 Gun Oil for free.
The extra Gun Oil can then be picked up in-game at any post office. It’s an odd workaround—especially since you cannot buy Gun Oil from your in-game pocket catalog—but the RDR2: Companion app is surprisingly handy in this case. Stock up on Gun Oil while it’s free and keep your guns clean while we all wait for more Red Dead Online content to hopefully come.
