GreedFall – How To Get A Memory Crystal And Respec Your Character

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Your build is important in GreedFall, and thankfully if you make a mistake, or just don’t like the choices you made, you can use a Memory Crystal to respec your character.

GreedFall has a respec mechanic that allows you to get all your skills points back. You can use a Memory Crystal to do this, and it will allow you to rebuild your character in a way that appeals to you more. You can do it as often as you like, but you will need a Memory Crystal each time. The kicker is that Memory Crystals are not the most common item in the game, so you will want to consider your build each time carefully.

GreedFall – How To Get A Memory Crystal And Respec Your Character

GreedFall Character Development

If you go into the Character Development tab in the menu, at the bottom, you will see an option use a Memory Crystal. You will also be able to see a count of how many Memory Crystals you have beside that option. Using a Memory Crystal will refund your Skill, Attribute, and Talent points, and allow you to use them again. It will not affect any bonuses that you get from armor, or from achieving certain bonuses through other means.

You start the game off by getting your first Crystal from the weakened boss you fight in Serene, giving you a free re-roll of your character if you want it. As you play through the game, you will encounter different bosses, and these boss fights can reward you with more Memory Crystals. They cannot be gotten from Merchant or through means like that; you have to take out these powerful enemies to get them.

As such, it is best to try and create the best build you can, and think about the aspects of combat that you feel are more rewarding or effective. I would suggest always keeping one Memory Crystal, just in case of emergencies, because it is never entirely clear when a new one will come your way. Be sure to explore areas fully to try to find these bosses, so that you can amass as many Memory Crystals as possible.

Interestingly, when you use a Memory Crystal, if you decide to go for a completely different class then your start equipment will change into the equipment for that class, so be sure to hold on to it by keeping it in storage.

And that’s it, everything you need to know about Memory Crystals and respecing your character in GreedFall.
