How to preload Gears Tactics on PC and Xbox One

Get there before the Locust.

We are excited about Gears Tactics. It’s a fun use of the franchise and seems to build on the tactical-strategy genre in all the right ways to still feel like a Gears game. The game will be dropping on Apr. 28 but is already available for preload on PC.

Preloading on PC

Gears Tactics is available on both Steam and the Windows Store. Even better, Xbox Game Pass for PC owners will also get free access to the game. You will need to pre-order it on your platform of choice, then find it in your library, and you will be able to preload.

Preordering will get you the following bonus items:

  • Augustus Cole recruit
  • Thrashball Armor Set with rare abilities

If you own Gears 5 on Steam, you will also get a 15 percent discount off the price of your preorder.

Preloading on Xbox One

It’s bad news down for Xbox One owners, unfortunately. The game cannot be preloaded on Xbox one yet because it won’t be releasing for the platform on April 28. At the moment, no release date is known, other than the fact that the game will launch on Microsoft’s flagship console sometime later this year.

In a way, it makes sense, as a tactical-strategy game is very much a made for PC experience, and there might be some issues translating the experience and controls to a joypad. There can be surprisingly complex control schemes at play in games such as this, and the developers may have considered it prudent to focus on getting the game out on PC before focusing on making the console experience the best it could be.
