How to start the Revenge of the Cartels event in Borderlands 3

Killing time.

Revenge of the Cartels is a free seasonal event that will be running in Borderlands 3 from April 23 until June 4. That is quite a long run, giving us a long time to gather up as much loot as we can. During the Revenge of the Cartels event, we will be helping out Maurice, as he has gotten himself in a spot of trouble with some shady characters.

There is no talking his way out, and it is up to use to lay waste to the Eridium Cartel that wants his scaly hide. The event will begin at 12 pm PST, so if you visit Maurice before then, he won’t have anything for you.

To begin the event, wait for the update to download, then go and visit Maurice in the Sanctuary. Speak to him, and you will get a repeatable quest from him, and the event will have officially started. Completing the mission will get you a trip to Villa Ultraviolent, home of Joey Ultraviolent, the leader of the Cartel.

You will need to track down Cartel Operative enemies, which will stand out due to their trippy neon colors. Killing them will cause a group of Cartel Thugs to arrive, and taking them out will get you Hideout Coordinates. Get enough of these coordinates, and Maurice will be able to use a portal to send you after Joey.

There will also be lots of challenges to complete, so make sure you check in with Maurice to see what they are. Complete challenges will get you the below rewards:

  • 3 Challenges: ‘VECH-tor Graphics’ ECHO Device Skin
  • 6 Challenges: ‘Retro Outrunner’ Weapon Trinket
  • 10 Challenges: ‘Framed Firewall’ Room Decoration
  • 14 Challenges: ‘Hotline Pandora’ Vault Hunter Head
  • 18 Challenges: ‘Death by Filigrees’ Vault Hunter Skin

If you have a problem starting the event or get to Maurice and he doesn’t seem to have anything for you, it might just take a little for the update to arrive on some platforms. Restarting the game and checking if there is an update available will hopefully solve the issue for you.
