The crazy, mind-bending nature of The Oldest House continues to cause issues as Jesse Faden wanders through it. While players must solve the mystery of what’s gone at the Federal Bureau of Control’s (FBC) home base, there are forces there deadset on ensuring you make no progress. A deadly force preventing you from moving forward is a boss called The Former. This massive, one-eyed creature is not going to make it easy for you. Here’s the break down how to tackle this boss and advance in Control.

How To Beat the Former in Control

Phase One

You’re going to see the massive form of the Former pop up out of nowhere, with a gigantic, white eye pointed directly at you. As soon as you see the health bar, start firing into that eye using your telekinesis powers. Aim straight for the creature’s white eye to cause him any damage. At the same time, the big creature is going to be firing black orbs in your direction. These go away pretty quickly after a single shot. However, you don’t want to waste your powers on them. Instead, keep your pistol on the standard-setting to take them out.

You can damage the eye using your pistol, but you’re not going to do too much to it. You want to focus on hitting it with objects you pick up using your powers.

Phase Two

After you’ve done roughly a quarter of its health, the Former is going to slip away. It’s not done with you yet. You’re going to find it popping up shortly after, and it probably looks a lot bigger now, too. Not only that, but you’re going to see its legs popping out of the side of its body. These nasty things are going to try and make your time even worse. Additionally, you still have to watch out for those black orbs it’s throwing at you.

You can freely attack the Former while it’s showing off its legs, which are going to slam down, attempting to hit you. You’ll want to jump into the air, using your levitate ability to dodge them. However, you now have to look out because those stomping feet are going to leave holes in the ground. If you fall into any of these, they’re going to kill you, and you have start over. Avoid these, while still flinging any object you can at the Former’s eye.

Phase Three

After you reached the final third of its health, it’s going to pull away again. You don’t have to worry about another attack or something new, but the Former is about start attacking much more quickly. When it pops back up, the leg attacks are going to be more frequent, destroying the ground and forcing you to watch your footing. Again, if you have the pattern down for the first two phases, the last one is more of the same.

Best Way to Hurt the Former

Throwing objects at the Former’s white eye is a great way to damage the creature. However, the best way to do the maximum amount of damage to the boss is to use those black orbs against them. The Former is going to fire out three of those in intervals. You can use your telekinetic powers to grab them, pull them to you, and then toss those into the creature’s eye. You’re going to see a good chunk of damage against it, making the fight significantly faster.
