Pokemon Go Mewtwo

How to get Mewtwo during the Kanto Throwback Challenge 2020 in Pokémon Go

Catch a Mewtwo while you can.

To celebrate the past 20 years of Pokémon games since it first released, Niantic has created a series of throwback challenges in Pokémon Go. The four limited-time challenges revolve around each of the first four regions. During the Kanto Throwback Challenge 2020, which goes on from May 1 at 1:00pm to May 8 at 1:00pm your local time, you have the chance to capture and encounter a Mewtwo that knows Psystrike.

To have the chance to encounter Mewtwo during the event you must complete all eight sets of tasks for the Kanto Throwback Challenge 2020. You have a limited time to complete these research tasks, so the quicker you focus on them, the faster you gain the opportunity to get your shot at capturing Mewtwo.

These are the challenges you must complete to encounter Mewtwo:

  • Step 1:
    • Catch 3 Grass, Water, or Fire-type Pokémon
    • Take a snapshot of a Bug-type Pokémon.
    • Catch a Rock-type Pokémon.
  • Step 2:
    • Battle in a raid
    • Transfer three Pokémon
    • Catch 1 Water-type Pokémon
  • Step 3:
    • Evolve 3 Pokémon
    • Hatch an Egg
    • Catch an Electric-type Pokémon
  • Step 4:
    • Give your buddy a treat
    • Send a gift to a friend
    • Catch a Grass-type Pokémon
  • Step 5:
    • Earn a candy walking with your buddy
    • Make 3 great throws
    • Catch a Poison-type Pokémon
  • Step 6:
    • Take a snapshot of a Ghost-type Pokémon
    • Evolve a Pokémon
    • Catch a Fire-type Pokémon
  • Step 7:
    • Take a snapshot of an Ice-type Pokémon
    • Evolve a Pokémon
    • Catch a Fire-type Pokémon
  • Step 8:
    • Power up a Pokémon six times
    • Battle another trainer
    • Catch a Ground-type Pokémon

After you complete all of these challenges within the allotted time, one of your rewards will be the Mewtwo. It’s a pure Psychic-type Pokémon with a max CP of 4,178, an attack of 300, a defense of 182, and stamina of 214. While it may lack a hearty defense, it has plenty of attack to make up for it. Confusion and psystrike are among its top preferred movesets, making it an ideal addition to your collection.

You have only until May 1 at 1:00pm to May 8 at 1:00pm in your local timezone to complete this quest. Not only does it give you the Mewtwo encounter, but it brings you one step closer to unlocking the Throwback Challenge Champion research tasks. These are only available for players if you complete all of the Throwback Challenges each week during May.

There are additional legendary Pokémon you can catch, such as Ho-Oh during the Johto Throwback Challenge 2020, which takes place from May 8 at 1:00pm to May 15 at 1:00pm.
