One thing that Pokemon Sword and Shield learned from the Let’s Go games is that being able to move Pokemon around at any time, between your party and boxes, is a great idea. In Sword and Shield, this is done via the PC Box Link.

You first get the PC Box Link when you arrive in the Wild Area. Just play through the story until you get the item. When you have it, you will be able to move Pokemon between your party and boxes. To do this, follow the steps below:

  • Press X to open the main menu
  • Select the Pokemon option to bring up your party
  • Press the R button to open your Box, allowing you to change your party

And that’s it. It’s a straightforward system, but also incredibly useful if you need to switch around your party members in a hurry. It’s also beneficial because there is no longer a way to turn off EXP share in the game. If you want to focus on just one Pokemon in your party, you will need to move the others into a Box to do so. Thankfully the PC Box Link makes this easy to do.

An important note is that you cannot use the PC Box Link all the time. You will not be able to use it during Gym Challenges, for example. It’s a great timesaver, as you don’t need to travel to a Pokemon Center to get Pokemon from a Box.
