It is possible to exchange Coins for Evolution Crystals and Evolution Shards in the Exchange menu. There will be a limit to how many times you can do this, but they are also on a timer that will reset, although that timer is about a month-long.

You can spend 10,000 Coins to get 5 Evolution Shards, and you can do this three times within a reset period. You can spend 300,000 Coins to get one Evolution Crystal, and you can do this three times within a reset period.

You can also get some discounted purchases the first couple of times you buy them, but after that, you will be on to the reset Shards and Crystals.

  • Evolution Shards – 5 for 1000 Coins, available twice
  • Evolution Crystals – 3 for 5000 Coins, available one time.

You will need Evolution Shards and Crystals to complete the special Evolution Missions that will open up. This will allow you to Evolve your Pokemon from Stage 1 to Stage 2, or even Stage 3 if you level them up enough. Fully evolving a Sync Pair will give you access to a new Sync Move, but you will need to be extremely well leveled to succeed in getting a Pokemon to Stage 3. It is advised to wait until you are around Level 60 before you try these missions.
